I received the B.Sc. degree in Marine Sciences from University of Vigo (UV), Spain, in june, 2000. During the academic year 2000-2001 I attended to the post-graduate courses of the program “Oceanography and Coastal Geology” in the same university.
I re-started my research career in 2004, after a 3-year break, when I joint the TROPA-UCM group, in the Faculty of Physics of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), Spain. My main task at that stage was to compile and run the UCLA AGCM that was recently acquired by the group in 2003. This was of great significance in my training, as allowed me to acquire many computer and numerical skills, leading me to the knowledge of different programming languages, as MATLAB, Fortran and GrADS, as well as Linux Scripting. During this stage of my career I also developed skills in atmospheric physics and dynamics, completing the training received during my degree studies.
My PhD dissertation, presented in June 2010, was focused in the study of the impacts of the Atlantic Equatorial Mode in the WAM monsoon and the rest of the tropical basins, as well as in the summer Mediterranean climate, by the analysis of observations and AGCM simulations. Working with observational data, I learnt how to deal with large amounts of data, as well as the use of different statistical methods, such as EOF and MCA. Part of this work was performed within the European Project AMMA-EU, in which I worked on the impact of the SST in the different ocean basins on WAM.
During my PhD I researched for short periods at the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, in the University of California in Los Angeles (USA), during years 2004 and 2007. During both stays, I worked with the UCLA-AGCM, studying the impact of the Tropical Atlantic Variability on the European winter climate and on the West African Monsoon.
Also, in the first half of year 2009, I joined the research group MOMAC (MOdelización para el Medio Ambiente y el Clima), the most experienced group in regional climate modeling in Spain. During this collaboration I also acquired skills in the use of the PROMES-RCM, with which I performed several simulations within the AMMA-EU project.
During the summer of 2009, I stayed at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, in Trieste (Italy), where I learnt how to use the ICTP-AGCM, uncoupled and also coupled to a SOM and to an Ocean Model.
As a postdoctoral researcher, in 2011 I worked during five months at the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, in the University of California in Los Angeles (USA) in the framework of the project entitled “The Southern Subtropical Anticyclones”, studying the impact of the Atlantic Warm Pool in the southern Pacific.
After that, I gained a postdoctoral fellowship in the University of Castilla-La Mancha, where I worked on the study of the impact of the climate change in the renewable resources in the Iberian Peninsula. During my stay in the University of Castilla-La Mancha, from October 2011 to January 2014, I also gained teaching experience both in theoretical and practical subjects.
From February 2014, I re-joined TROPA-UCM group as a postdoctoral researcher within the European project PREFACE (Enhancing Prediction of Tropical Atlantic Climate and its impact).
My research interests are climate variability, ocean-atmosphere interactions, atmospheric and ocean modeling, and the impact of the climate change in the climate variability.
